ISS veterans participate in historic military march in the Netherlands

The event, which took place on Saturday, 6 September 2025, is the world’s largest one-day commemorative march, honouring the Battle of Arnhem and saw a record-breaking 37,000 military and civilian participants this year.
Having supplied group transport to the event, ISS members joined the Kent Army Cadet Force (ACF) in taking part in the 15km march, and had the profound honour of saluting some of the last surviving World War II veterans of Operation Market Garden (an Allied operation in the Netherlands during September 1944), who were in attendance as guests of honour.
As a proud signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, ISS is committed to supporting remembrance activities, promoting the Armed Forces, and providing opportunities for veterans, reservists, cadet organisations, and service spouses and partners.
Through its JointForces@ISS programme, ISS helps service leavers and their families transition into civilian careers with tailored support designed to meet the unique needs of the military community.
Gavin Milligan, Operations Manager at ISS and serving army reservist who marched in the event, said:
“Walking the same ground as those who fought in the Battle of Arnhem was a deeply moving experience, one that brought the weight of their courage and sacrifice into sharp focus. For myself and the cadets, saluting the surviving veterans was a profound honour; a moment we’ll carry forever.
“I’m immensely proud to be part of ISS, a company that not only values our military community but actively champions serving army personnel and veterans like me in building meaningful careers.”
Martin Burholt, Chief Operating Officer for Government, Healthcare, and Education at ISS UK & Ireland, said:
“At ISS, we’re proud to honour our Armed Forces community. Supporting the historic Airborne March and seeing our colleagues represent ISS in Arnhem underscores our dedication to recognising the sacrifices of those who serve. We are privileged to have been part of this momentous occasion.”
Company Sergeant Major Kate Westall at Kent ACF, said:
"I would like to thank ISS for graciously supporting Kent Army Cadet Force by providing transport to assist us on our visit to Arnhem. Without the help of ISS, we would not have been able to logistically travel and take part.
“The trip provided a profound understanding of history that far surpasses classroom learning for our cadets and allowed them to connect with the past on a personal level with those who fought in the Battle of Arnhem. The commemorative march was a rewarding challenge for all, demonstrating resilience, perseverance, teamwork and the sense of personal achievement upon completion.
“Again, thank you ISS for your support."
